Spokes are probably the most underrated parts in Wheels, but in my Opinion they have a huge impact of the behavieor of Wheels. Also you can have a big differrence in wight of different Spokes. We only use High End Spokes from DT Swiss or Berdspokes
Round Spokes are the regular ones. We use only double butted, that means that the end sections have a larger diameter like the middle part. For Example 2,0-1,8-2,0 mm
On the End sections you have more Loads and some weakening of the tread an the Head Moulding, this level the smaler Diameter of the middle part, also the damping avaibilities getting much better.
+ relatively cheap
+ Easy to Handle
+ very reliable
+ not easy to cut (Rocks/Bikepark)
- not the best damping behavior
- for max Spoketension on the limit
The Bladed Spokes have of Course the advantage of the Aerodynamic Shape, but they have also a lot of technical advantages. The "Blading" will moulded with an aditional forging. This makes the Spokes verry strong also they are one of the lightest Steel Spokes. The offset yield strenght is much higher like the round spokes have, so the Arolite Spokes are perfect for High Spoketension.
+ Light (save 100g to a Round Competition 2,0-1,8 Wheelset)
+ Aerodynamic Shape
+ good Dampping behavior
+ perfect for high Spoketension
- Easier tu cut by Rocks
Textile Berdspokes are the revolution on the spokemarket!
The Textilespokes offers at least the same strenght of Steel Spokes with the half of the weight of light steel Spokes. You can have a huge weight saving with aditional advantages like damping behavior and also an improofment of impactstrength for Carbon Rims.
+ Very light -100g to a Aerolite wheelset
+ Best Damping availabilities
+ extreme Spoketension possible
- Expensive
- time consuming Wheelbuilding process necessary
